During each vintage Symington Family Estates purchases grapes from around 1,200 small and medium-sized growers. Through these purchases, the company injects considerable financial resources into the local economy, thus contributing to the livelihood of thousands of people in the Douro. The Symington family has a keen sense of responsibility to the communities among whom it works and shares knowledge of good viticulture practice with many Douro growers.

Symington Family Estates employs close to 500 people, this number increasing substantially during the harvest. Approximately 40% of the Symington workforce is employed in the Douro and several families who have worked with the Symingtons for generations can be found across the company.
