Adega do Ataíde achieves LEED Gold certification

Symington Family Estates - 2024-05-03

We're very proud to share that Adega do Ataíde, our new low impact winery in the Douro Superior subregion of the Douro, has officially been granted Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) GOLD certification – making it not only the first winery in Portugal to achieve this recognition, but also the first in Europe to surpass 60 LEED points (the threshold for being granted the GOLD certification level).

Developed by the U.S. Green Building Council, LEED is a globally recognised symbol of excellence in green building design, construction and operation, and is used in over 150 countries across the five continents.

The Ataíde winery is the new home of our premium Douro DOC wines, and achieved a high score in the demanding evaluation by capturing 100% LEED points in water efficiency and a very high score in energy efficiency, innovation and site sustainability.
